The year 2011 will mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of venerable blues label Alligator Records. With the 1971 release of the self-titled Hound Dog Taylor and the HouseRockers album, which Alligator's Bruce Iglauer robbed his personal piggy-bank to record and release, the label started a wild four-decade ride that shows no signs of slowing down today. Through these many years, Alligator has released essential music from artists like Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Johnny Winter, Lonnie Brooks, Son Seals, Koko Taylor, and many, many more....

Recently-released and acclaimed albums from the likes of Tommy Castro, JJ Grey & Mofro, Marcia Ball, Guitar Shorty, and others show that the good folks at Alligator aren't content to rest on their considerable laurels. The label has a whole lot of good things planned for its 40th anniversary, starting with the January 18, 2011 release of Roomful of Blues' latest, Hook, Line & Sinker, and Shemekia Copeland's Deluxe Edition compilation.

Roomful of Blues has been around even longer than Alligator Records, the legendary and much beloved jump-blues band introducing new singer Phil Pemberton with Hook, Line & Sinker, which also features some tasty guitar courtesy the underrated Chris Vachon. Pemberton is said to be a blues shouter in the mold of Big Joe Turner, and the new album stays true to the Roomful of Blues sound - an energetic blend of horn-driven blues, R&B, and old-school rock guaranteed to get your feet moving and your rump shaking.

Shemekia Copeland, simply put, is one of the most exciting vocalists on the blues scene today. The daughter of legendary Texas blues guitarist Johnny Copeland, Shemekia recorded four albums for Alligator circa 1998 to 2005, the best of which have been distilled into the sixteen-song Deluxe Edition CD, the compilation a great way to introduce your ears to this talented singer. Come February, Alligator will be releasing The Alligator Records 40th Anniversary Collection, a two-CD set featuring some of the finest blues music released by the label. Stay tuned, 'cause Alligator has a lot of other cool music coming our way during 2011!
