First a word of praise for Michael Conrader who recorded and mixed this album - it has one of the best keyboard sounds that I've heard in a long time, and absolutely defines the kind of sound that Alex Bugnon was clearly aiming for. The best tracks on this album are excellent. I particularly like "Night Groove" ( where he acknowleges a debt to Rodney Franklin) a dark and brooding piece; "Strollin'" which captures a mood, and "Changes" which has an authentic gospel-blues feel. The version of "In a sentimental mood" is a straight ahead piano piece, and "Can't get you out of my mind" has some lovely organ work (courtesy of David Delhomme) and underpinning vocals from Arthur Rogiers. What doesn't work for me on the album are the drum sounds from Poogie Bell, which on some tracks sound a bit leaden - particularly on "Walking In Rhythm" where the excellent keyboard work seems to be held back by the live drum sound.Perhaps what the album needed most was a little more editing- but it contains enough innovation to be able to report that Alex Bugnon is still pushing the business forward.-- Dr.D.Treharne ~ Amazon.com
