rad. grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and began playing piano at the age of 4. In 1990 she completed her jazz studies at U.C. Berkeley. The West Coast music scene quickly got hip to rad.'s latin jazz chops and she was soon playing with legendary musicians like Pete Escovedo, Benny Velarde (Cal Tjader), Orestes Vilato (Santana), Ray Obiedo and David Garibaldi among others. Her move to Europe in 1991 marked the beginning of her solo career. With the encouragement of her husband and producer Michael Kirsch (co-founder of the Soulciety Record label), rad. became Rose Ann's solo project, a funk show spiced with latin flavors. The debut LP radified (1992) catapulted rad. into the spotlight. It's hit single "Wishy" featured on the now classic "Soulciety Funky Family Compilation I" stormed European dancefloor charts and received "Album of the Month" awards in many prominent music publications throughout Europe. Gotta Be (1994), the second release, was praised by critics, DJ's and fans alike. In 1996 Michael and rad. split from Soulciety Records. Their return to California in 1997 brought the third CD on their new record label 7 Bridges Recordings entitled Higher Plane. Her fourth studio album, Make Every Second Count (2001) was a return to her rough funk sensibilties and featured the touring band including Ray Obiedo, David Garibaldi and Marc van Wageningen. The live CD rad. - Live at the New Morning, Paris was recorded on the Europe tour of fall of 2002 and was released in the beginning 2004. rad.'s sixth album East Babe came in February 2007 with contributions by John Blackwell & Sikiru Adepoju. rad. joined Prince's band in mid 2003 and toured with Prince & the NPG. TV Performances included the Grammys with Beyonce, Jay Leno & Ellen. rad. decided to leave the NPG in spring 2004 to concentrate on her new born daughter and the production of her fifth studio album East Babe. rad. and her band went on to tour much of the world in 2007. rad.- Live in Japan recorded in Fall 2007 came out in 2008. Trombone legend Fred Wesley will join the rad. band for concerts in 2008. Check the Tour page for a list of current and past dates.
