I wanted to comment about this release because there are not a lot of reviews to be found in the usual places like Allmusic or Amazon, with the exception of one very favorable review found on Amazon that caused me to take the bait and download it. That review suggested to "forget The Shadows, The Ventures, Duane Eddy, & the like", implying that Ricky King's compilation would make their music seem second rate.

First off, on a positive note I will say that Ricky King's music certainly is pleasant. The renditions of these popular tunes are quite recognizable and not badly done. If you want some mellow background music that will not disturb the peace at modest volume levels, this certainly could fill the need.

It is easy listening to the point that it might do well in a dentist or doctor's office waiting room where it would be sure to calm the nerves of patients, if not causing them to fall into a comatose state. As fitting for that kind of use, I would describe the renditions as being somewhat sterile, or lacking in soul.

My recommendation is to hang onto your Ventures, Duane Eddy & the like.
