Composer/producer/keyboard legend/elder statesman for Smooth Jazz Jeff Lorber has done it again! His Peak album debut HEARD THAT is, as expected, absolutely stellar. The first radio single sets a torrid pace for the rest of the set, with its bluesy, old-school funk treatment of Amy Winehouse's Grammy-winning hit "Rehab." It'll remind you of the vibe on Ramsey Lewis' "In Crowd." On HEARD THAT, Jeff returns to his fusion-funk roots after the more jazz-oriented HE HAD A HAT album from 2007, and ensures the groove by collaborating with legendary pop, R&B producer Rex Rideout. HEARD THAT is amply infused with a pop, jazz, R&B, and Blues flavor, and naturally has that classic Lorber signature taste of 80's Fusion sound running through it all. Jeff acknowledges that "Jazz thrives on being a collaborative medium," and including players like Rick Braun, Paul Jackson, Jr. and Gerald Albright as sidemen doesn't hurt either! So what's Jeff Lorber's secret to his success and longevity? He answers, "My work ethic and the time I spend focusing on writing... I'm open to inspiration and ideas 24 hours a day." And that's exactly why we get awesome projects like HEARD THAT with every new Jeff Lorber release! ~ SCOTT O'BRIEN
